Boundaries Process

September- December 2007
Steering Committee- first point of contact for boundary information, refers data to patron/staff committee, reviews input from patron/ staff committe and public input

Patron/Staff Committee- second point of contact for information, reviews information and provides feedback to steering committee

Public Input-boxes at each elementary and middle school for written input on boundary criteria and options, RQS website for electronic input on boundary criteria and options.

January- February 2008
See a map of the neighborhoods that will attend each elementary. Also, each school will have a forum at which the public may view options and offer input.

March 2008
Administration recommends boundary option to Board of Education for a vote, and Board requests additional information.

April 2008
Publish summary concerns from February forums, Board of Education votes to accept Option 2 with some minor changes.

Boundaries Criteria

Criteria were gathered from Steering Committee and surveys, and the following were determined (in no particular order):
-Consider an elementary feeder school plan for middle school attendance boundaries
-Consider whenever possible, the neighborhood elementary school concept
-Consider the use of a farsighted view, where future needs and growth are used in making
-Consider building capacities regarding the number of classrooms available as criteria for boundaries
-Consider striving for diversity and socio-economic balance whenever possible

Summary Concerns from February forums Summaries of input from the February forums can be found here. (The summaries are in PDF form and are formatted horizontally on legal size paper, four pages.) The Board of Education has asked the administration to consult with the professional demographer to discuss these concerns, strategies, and impact as well as any other possible strategies that might be considered.
